We want to protect your investment in the purchase of a valuable piece of jewlery intended for generations. Diamonds are generational. Often your kids, grandkids etc etc will continue to wear your diamond for years. We believe protecting your investment in such a treasure in part of our obligation as 21st century jewelry professionals.
Lab Grown diamonds have become a recent trend among retail jewelers and online jewelry sellers. Diamonds have been being grown for industrial purposes for decades, but only in recent years has the process been capable of making cleaner appearing crystals for making jewelry quality "lab diamonds". These are chemically almost identical to natural diamonds. ALMOST! Depending on their one of two types of manufacturing they are both identifiable as having been grown in a laboratory by trained gemologists. These diamonds are loved by many jewelers because they can sell them for 20% less than a comparable Earth mined natural diamond, and the jeweler can make a lot more profit. This is because there is no true commodity market for them. We have seen over 2018 that the price of these so called diamonds has dropped quickly. We have chosen not to partake in selling these to make a quick buck. We would rather sell you a diamond that carries the romance of having formed in the Earth over billions of years. This Earth mined diamond is well understood and it's value is very clearly tracked and monitored. Earth mined diamonds have prooven their ability to sustain their value and appreciate decade after decade after decade. In comparison every diamond substitute from Cubic Zirconia to Moissanite to now Laboratory Grown Diamonds has started selling very high and within just a few years has dropped 90%+ in value. Additionally, many people believe Laboratory Grown Diamonds are more environmentally friendly. Sadly, this is simply not true. The emissions of the machines that grow these "diamonds" is immense. There is a reason Laboratory "diamonds" are only being grown in countries without any or with very lax environmental regulations.
What about the good Earth Mined Diamonds do?
Most people are unaware of the role diamonds play in bringing real life benefits to people in the countries where diamonds are sourced. From Canada to Russia, Antwerp to Israel, however nowhere is this more evident than in Africa where this same resource had once as recently as the 1990's been used to fund conflict. Diamonds are now driving economic growth and prosperity in many parts of the world -- especially in Africa.
-An estimated 5 million people have access to appropriate healthcare globally thanks to revenues from diamonds. -Diamond revenues enable every child in Botswana to receive free education up to the age of 13. -An estimated 10 million people around the globe are directly or indirectly supported by the diamond industry. -The charity Jewelers for Children funds a community based care program for orphaned children in South Africa. Housing, education, healthcare and so much more are provided. -The diamond mining industry generates over 40% of Namibia's annual export earnings. -Approximately $8.5 billion worth of diamonds a year come from African countries. -The revenue from diamonds is instrumental in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic. -An estimated 65% of the world's diamonds come from African countries.
Why we believe there's reason for concern:
We believe that Lab Created Diamonds will likely plumet in value. Earth mined diamonds on the other hand are simply more romantic, better for the environment, provide countless jobs and benefits to humans around the world, and have proven their economic stability for decades.
